How to create a capsule wardrobe?

Today we’re going to talk about capsule wardrobes and how to create one. It’s the fashion tip for creating an elegant, minimalist style. But how do you go about creating a practical, elegant and eco-friendly wardrobe?

What is a capsule wardrobe?

A capsule wardrobe is a limited selection of essential garments, often between 30 and 40 pieces, designed to be versatile and timeless. The principle is based on the idea of reducing excess and creating a coherent collection where each garment can be easily combined with the others. The aim: simplify your dressing room, save time in the morning and, above all, minimize the purchase of useless clothes that will be out of fashion in 6 months’ time. To convince you, I present 3 advantages that will convince you:

1: You’ll buy less, but better quality clothes.

2: Fewer clothes means less production = less waste and less CO2 emissions.

3: By investing in better pieces, you’ll save money in the long run by buying less.

Here’s a 5-step action plan to get you started:

Step 1: Sort through your wardrobe 🔎

Take out all your clothes and ask yourself the following questions:

👗 Do I wear this item regularly?

🧐 Do I really like this garment?

🤌 Is it of good quality and in good condition?

Keep only those pieces that are timeless, of good quality and really bring you joy. Clothes that are damaged or that you never wear can be donated, sold or recycled.

Step 2: Identify your essentials

To define your essentials, think about your lifestyle, your professional environment and your personal activities. Basics you could keep include well-cut jeans, a pretty black dress, classic, comfortable shoes, organic cotton t-shirts…

Make sure that each garment can be easily combined with others to maximize outfit possibilities.

Step 3: Invest in sustainable and ethical pieces

Now that you’ve sorted and identified your essentials, it’s time to complete your capsule wardrobe with eco-responsible clothing. When buying new items, give preference to brands committed to ethical and sustainable production. Opt for clothes made from organic cotton, linen, hemp… Invest in pieces designed to last over time and stand the test of time.

Step 4: Learn how to care for your clothes

Another essential aspect of an eco-responsible capsule wardrobe is maintenance. To make your clothes last longer, adopt eco-friendly care habits, wash them less frequently, use eco-friendly products or repair instead of throwing them away. I promise, the article on clothes care by material is coming soon!

Step 5: Limit your impulse purchases

I know, this part is difficult and we’re all too often tempted, between the fashions of the moment and the colors of the season (cherry red 🍒 or Valentino pink💕). But if you like colorful clothes and they’re part of your capsule selection, it’s obviously okay to have them in your wardrobe, no color dictates, you’re free. The key to maintaining a capsule wardrobe is to resist the urge to buy clothes in response to fleeting trends. Before every purchase, ask yourself the following questions: Do I really need this item? Does it match the rest of my wardrobe? Will I wear it often? Is it of good quality and eco-responsible?

🙌 A final tip: play with accessories and opt for ethical bags, shoes and jewelry, made from sustainable, eco-friendly materials. Accessories can transform a simple outfit into a sophisticated look, while maintaining a focus on minimalism and quality.

Adopting this approach will not only be good for the planet, but also for your personal well-being: less stress, more simplicity. So, are you ready to start an eco-friendly capsule wardrobe?
